ABOUT VILLAS
Carioca, graduado em Comunicação Visual pela Puc Rio. Em 2003, realizou o curso de documentário da Escuela de Cinema de San Antonio de los Baños, em Cuba. Morou em Barcelona de 2006 a 2012, onde cursou uma pós graduação em Ilustração na escola Eina (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona) e um mestrado em Artes Digitais no Institut Universitari de l´Audiovisual de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Também foi artista residente em alguns centros de produção artística mais importantes da cidade como o Hangar (www.hangar.org). Recebeu bolsas, participou de festivais e teve seu trabalho publicado e exposto em diferentes cidades da Espanha e da Europa. Seu documentário “Mundo Colorido” ganhou o prêmio de júri especializado no festival Hutuz em 2008. Em 2015 foi artista residente convidado no programa internacional do centro Al Riwaq em Bahrein durante o festival “The nest”. Em 2024 voltou para participar do festival Muharraq Nights, também à convite do centro de Arte Al Riwaq (www.alriwaqartspace.com).
Rodrigo Villas is a visual artist from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Born in Rio de Janeiro, he graduated in Visual Communication from PUC-Rio. In 2003, he completed a documentary course at the Escuela de Cinema de San Antonio de los Baños in Cuba. He lived in Barcelona from 2006 to 2012, where he pursued postgraduate studies in Illustration at the Eina school (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona) and a master's degree in Digital Arts at the Institut Universitari de l'Audiovisual de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He was also an artist-in-residence at some of the city's most important art production centers, such as Hangar (www.hangar.org). He has received grants, participated in festivals, and had his work published and exhibited in various cities in Spain and Europe. His documentary "Mundo Colorido" won the specialized jury prize at the Hutuz festival in 2008. In 2015, he was an invited artist-in-residence in the international program of the Al Riwaq center in Bahrain during the "The Nest" festival. In 2024, she returned to participate in the Muharraq Nights festival, also at the invitation of the Al Riwaq Art Center (www.alriwaqartspace.com).
